Bio for Katherine J. Pohlman, MS, JD

I am a nurse attorney and coach whose passion is advocating for, counseling, and coaching health care providers regarding their legal rights, practice, and professional & personal well-being. I am an integrative practitioner, which means I approach your need or problem from a holistic perspective, taking into consideration how it impacts the rest of your life.  I bring heart and mind to the art of practice — whether providing legal, coaching or consulting services.

Over the years, I have served in a variety of nursing positions, including clinical, management and faculty.  I have practiced in the areas of family law, estate planning, healthcare law, medical malpractice defense litigation, and professional licensure defense.  I have also served as risk manager and in-house counsel at insurance and pharmacy benefit management companies. Recent consulting projects include program development for a health-crisis resource center and medical liability insurance company.

My education includes a BS in nursing from the University of Iowa, an MS in mental health nursing from the University of Illinois, a law degree (JD) from Boston University, and a certificate in holistic coaching from the Center for Spirituality & Healing at the University of Minnesota.

Throughout my career, I have written and published extensively, conducted many workshops and given countless presentations and talks.  I am a founding member of The American Association of Nurse Attorneys (TAANA) and have served over the years in many roles, including on the Board of Directors and as President, Vice-President, and Corresponding Secretary.  I am a recipient of TAANA’s Distinguished Service Award, and am included in Who’s Who In American Law, as well as Who’s Who In American Nursing.

I am a member of the Minnesota and Hennepin County Bar Associations, Minnesota Holistic Nurses Association, the American Holistic Nurses Association, the Minnesota Holistic Medical Association, the American Holistic Medical Association, the Arts & Health Alliance, and the Midwest Arts in Healthcare Network, where I serve as Treasurer. I am admitted to the bars in Minnesota, Massachusetts, U.S. District Court (Mass), the U.S. Court of Appeals (1st Cir.), and the United States Supreme Court. I am licensed as a nurse in Massachusetts.

I found Katherine's services to be competent, timely, sensitive and essential for our organization’s integrity and success.
